Prince’s estate could be worth up to $900 million and may all go to his younger sister, a reformed drug addict.
The pop icon, who died at the age of 57 on Thursday, was twice divorced with no children and under Minnesota law his estate would go to his only full sibling Tyka Nelson unless he left a will specifying otherwise.
Tyka, who also goes by the nickname Tika, was born to Mattie Shaw and John L. Nelson. She is Prince’s only “full-blood” sibling. For a short period when they were young, the duo collaborated on songs.
In 2003 she told a US magazine she had been living in a crack house. She said: “I was a single mother and my boys were babies. I sold my body for food, money and Pampers. I pawned the car Prince had given me and sold the kids’ TV for drugs.”
